Implementation – Design and Technology
Implementation
At Binley Woods Primary School we base our Design and Technology curriculum on Projects on a Page which enables implementation of all the aspects of the National Curriculum programmes of study for KS1 and 2. Projects on a Page is based on universal principles of effective teaching and learning in D&T. The scheme of work ensures children design, make and evaluate products using the broad range of materials and components specified in the statutory requirements. These include:
- construction materials
- textiles
- food
- mechanical components
- electrical components (in KS2 only)

The children will complete:
- investigative and evaluative activities where children learn from a range of existing products
- focussed tasks where they are taught specific technical knowledge, designing skills and making skills
- design, make and evaluate assignments where children create functional projects with users and purposes in mind
Throughout the units, children will learn specific vocabulary to enable them to ‘talk like an expert’.
